Madrid’s soundscape
LIBRO+ CD Las Cajas de Uruk Carles, JL y Palmese, C. Artist book.
Museum of contemporary art Madrid 2005
The images and sounds collected in this book make up a series of sensory instances in some spaces that are characteristic of Madrid. These recordings and images try to collect the daily landscapes in which they may have aesthetic and artistic unity, reconstructing the sensorial reality in the city like a composition. The sonic environments have been considered not from a mere acoustic evaluation nor from a fight against noise, but from their representation as a musical composition, trying at the same time to open our ears to daily sounds, in the belief that every space, every culture, every city produces its own musicality. This approximation of sound, realized in a free and spontaneous way that summarizes a personal experience of hearing and the study of the city has a few important methodological precedents such as those developed by Barry Truax and Murray Schafer at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver and those proposed by Pascal Amphoux and Lean-Fraçois Augoyard in the CRESSON Lab at the University of Grenoble.
